Droplets of Verse: ‘The Text Explodes’

The future is only a second away
Memory returns me to yesterday
Tomorrow brings another episode
Meanwhile, the text explodes

Sailors harbour thoughts of treasure
The journey of life is made to measure
Anger rises up inside
Millionaires have so much to hide

Footprints fade from melting snow
Seeds of doubt have begun to grow
Narrative nurses a broken nose
Can the text walk away from the gallows?

    1. It was an interesting exercise, although I’m not convinced the resulting ramble achieves anything, but I quite like the free association it stimulates. I’ll certainly repeat this exercise – I think if nothing else it develops an authority in the writing.

      1. I think I know what I was trying to say, but was conscious of drifting into a soapbox style – it has something, but the imagery and ideas clash. Needs a bit of work basically,

      2. I retune time and again to my poems, Andy, and often find I can clarify my ideas / tighten them up with a rewrite ~ there is immense satisfaction on feeling that a poem is truly ‘finished’ ie as finished as it can be … for now :)
