Droplets of Verse: ‘Tailgater’

Tailgater
With snapping jaws like an alligator
Headlights bite
Chewing up the miles in the city moonlight

We three mirrors
Of an orientation arc
Three small screens
Track the tailgater’s charge

Sniffing at my rear
Tailgater follows his nose
Rubber squeals
And tailgater knows

The scales of justice
Aren’t in his collection
Tailgater blazes
Never changes direction

Swing hard to the left
And tailgater’s gone
Wagging his tail and
Turning his cold eyes towards the next one

Yes, we can learn a lot from the Europeans. Tailgating is one thing that is guaranteed to wind me up – I genuinely believe that perpetrators should be locked up and their cars melted down.
